  • Commonly used command switches
These are a few more commonly used switches when configuring the folding clients. Taken from: (http://folding.stanford.edu/console-userguide.html)

-configonly
Configres the client, but quit following configuration instead of beginning work.

-forceasm
Instruct the core to use SSE/3DNow assembly instructions if possible, even if it has previously make the determination that the machine may not be handling this well.

-advmethods
Request to be assigned work units from new projects, before they are broadly release to the rest of Folding@Home. As among the first to try out new advanced simulations, you may wish to post any observations (positive or negative), questions, or issues at the user Forum.

  • 50% Bonus over standard benchmark value (setting can be changed by using -configonly)
Currently you can configure the client to have greater chances of getting WUs larger than 5MB in size, which will give you a 50% bonus. Taken from: (http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?t=9104)

We have some new exciting projects just being released. They are unlike any project we've done before and "break" some of the normal FAH rules:

1. They're a lot bigger than the normal FAH WUs in terms of the RAM they take (hundreds of MB) and the net transfer (~5MB). To keep them only in the hands of those who have the resources for them, they require the "big WU" switch in the v5 client, enough RAM, and enough netbandwidth.
2. Since they take more resources, there is are bonus points associated with them (right now, a 50% bonus over the standard benchmark value). This value may increase or change if needed.
3. One other way that these WUs are different is that they are more likely to EARLY_END. Don't be surprised if this happens and don't worry: they are still scientifically important and clients get partial credit for the fraction completed.

This is new ground for FAH, which is scientifically very exciting. I hope to have some important new results to report in January, once these WUs have run for a few months.

As such, do not run with this option enabled unless you have adequate RAM (>256MB). If you have over that amount, and want more points, go ahead and configure it to accept big WUs.

  • Pausing F@H for Laptops running on battery power
You can now set the folding client to pause if you are folding on a laptop/notebook when it goes into a battery power mode. Just set the following setting to 'yes' when configuring the client. Complete configuration step is available in the 'How to configure the text-only console client?' FAQ.

Pause if battery power is being used (useful for laptops) (no/yes) [no]?
Answer 'yes'
